The Department of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies offers six semesters of Persian language, with different classes offered in fall vs. spring. The classes available in fall 2021 are PRSN 101 and PRSN 203. Third-year Persian (PRSN 305 and 306 in alternate years) is offered in spring only; PRSN 305 will be offered in spring 2022.

For a complete listing of Persian courses and course descriptions, consult http://catalog.unc.edu/courses/prsn/.

If you’re a beginner (no previous knowledge of Persian), register for any section of PRSN 101. Note that this class will not be offered in spring semester.

If you have prior knowledge of Persian and want to take Persian, you must take a placement test. This is true for everyone, regardless of how you learned Persian (in high school, at home, etc.) and regardless of any test credit or transfer credit you may have. Placement tests will be given remotely over the summer; please go to https://asianstudies.unc.edu/placement/ to sign up for a test.

If you think you should be in second-year Persian, you are welcome to register for PRSN 203 (though you will have to drop it if you don’t place into that level when you take the placement test).

If you have trouble getting into the Persian class you want, please refer to the information and help in this registration FAQ: https://asianstudies.unc.edu/registration-faq/, or contact Lori Harris at lori@unc.edu.
